H is for House

We decided to carry on the H theme into another week, since we didn't get all our activities done last week, and for some reason Haven started saying "eeee" for H! But we are back on track now. :) We played the matching hearts game again, and then we turned a big blue letter H into a house for our craft:

Then we got out the uncooked spaghetti noodles and sugar shaker...
She was concentrating very hard :)
Then we got out our newly refilled sensory tub...rainbow rice has been replaced with split peas and lentils:

H - Thursday

Today was kind of a low key day, and yesterday we ran out of time for tot time. Today we put pom poms onto circles outlining the letter H and a HIPPO of course, then glued together a hippo picture. We also practiced putting pipe cleaners thru tiny holes in a new sugar shaker. The plan was to use uncooked spaghetti noodles with this activity, but apparently we need to get some more the next time we are at the grocery store. :)
Gotta love the tongue sticking out in concentration in this one :)

H week - Tuesday

Today we did some heart activities for the letter H! We looked at our flashcards and H book again, played a heart matching game, colored a heart, and put pipecleaners into a sugar canister as an extra fun activity.

Haven really impressed mommy while playing the matching heart game! She caught on very quickly and did very well, and she really liked that activity. Putting pipe cleaners in the sugar shaker has always been a favorite as well!

Here's what we used today:

Letter H - Day One

We have started back on the "Tot School" wagon this week, and are getting into the alphabet. Instead of starting with the letter A, we will be starting with the letters in Haven's name, so this week we will focus on the letter "H".
We made an "Alphabet Tree" to put each letter on:

No picture with the little lady, as she was throwing a fit at the time because she wanted to color the (laminated) H!

We dot painted the upper & lowecase H. I wasn't sure she would grasp the concept of painting in the dots, but she caught on right away and loved it:

We practiced our lacing on a big Hippo!

We also read a couple books, and got out the alphabet puzzle:

And got out the Letter Factory DVD, that we watched on the computer since the DVD player isn't working, but Haven clearly didn't mind. :)

Holiday Art Projects

We got out the paint today & had a great time making our handprint turkey! Haven was having such a fun time that mommy decided to keep the projects going! After the turkey, we made a handprint christmas tree, that Haven added a thumbprint tree trunk & fingertip decorations to! Then we traced her hands to make a wreath and a little reindeer - we also traced her foot! My little monkey is covered head to toe in paint & marker smudges...good thing tonight is bath night, AND it is all washable! Here are some fun pics from our day...

That was a big sensory activity, and although my little miss doesn't usually like getting her hands dirty, she loved squishing paint around! Silly little girl.

Tot School - Day One!

Thanks to my friend Nicole at Sweet Shots By Nicole, I was introduced to wide world of Tot School last week. After scouring the posts at 1+1+1+=1, I decided to start something like this with my daughter Haven, who just turned ONE year old a week ago! With her just being one, we are starting slowly. After reading thru the tot school ideas, I was reminded that I was already doing some of these things with Haven, mostly art projects and sensory activities. Today during the morning playtime, I noticed Haven had quite a few purple ABC blocks in her pile. I decided to use this as an opportunity to start "teaching" colors, starting of course with PURPLE. I stacked her blocks up, and added a few more purple toys to the mix. We talked about purple, the found a purple P. We played with the blocks, stacking, unstacking, knocking towers over...Haven was even making her own stacks & knocking them over!

After she moved on from this, I decided it was time for some water play! I walked thru the house, gathering a few purple things to toss in. Filled up our big bowl with water, stripped down the babe, and let her go to town! She loved it! Splashing splashing splashing...then we added some toys, a spoon & a cup. She had fun seeing what each toy would do in the water, splashing some more, putting toys in the cup & dumping them out, filling the cup with water and dumping that out...silly mommy added a purple rubber ducky, and Haven did not like that at all! As soon as she laid eyes on it, she picked it up & threw it out of the bowl. Silly girl. We played in the water for awhile, until the little miss decided to grab the side & dump almost the entire bowl all over the table, chairs, herself AND mommy!

I had planned on continuing the "Purple - P" theme tomorrow with some sort of art project, and then I remembered that it is Thanksgiving the day after, and we have yet to do our handprint turkey! Where does the time go?! So tomorrow will be a sort of "all color day." Can't wait to get my little bug all painted up.
